General Investigations

The General Investigative Division (GIU) is responsible for conducting follow up investigations of all open Part 1 Crimes and Personnel Investigations. GIU, in conjunction with federal, state and local agencies, conducts narcotics and gang investigations through the use of active surveillance and other proactive investigative techniques.

The follow-up investigations of Part 1 crimes committed on or about school board property include burglaries, robberies, narcotics and violent crimes. In order to solve these crimes, GIU works closely with a multitude of law enforcement agencies, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Secret Service, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. GIU detectives are highly trained in the areas of crime scene processing, evidence collection and interrogation. Typically, GIU conducts over 1,000 follow-up criminal investigations each year.

Personnel investigations are administrative in nature, and are conducted to determine if an employee has violated any School Board Rules. GIU investigates over 200 personnel cases each year and is also responsible for criminal record checks on all employees.

GIU personnel are available to provide uniform support during peak time periods such as the opening and closing of schools. GIU personnel are trained to conduct site security assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
